Pure Innovations working in partnership with  Living Ventures

Pure Innovations is a charity delivering a wide range of engaging support services to people with learning difficulties, autism, disabilities and mental health. These services include alternative education programmes, supported employment and alternative day service provision including sports, animation, horticulture and catering.

Pure Supported Internship programmes are for young people between the ages of 18-24 years old living in Greater Manchester. The aim is to enable these young adults to secure independence and fulfilment through an alterative education provision that will progress placements into paid employment. Since 2013 we have enjoyed a close association with Living Ventures through our Supported Internship programmes. This has had huge benefits for our young people.

The supported interns undertake an employability qualification plus three 10-week work placements over the course of an academic year. Living Ventures has been incredibly proactive in providing invaluable placement opportunities across many of it’s prestigious venues helping to raise the profile of Supported Employment. Living Ventures shares our vision that in an inclusive society there should be no artificial barriers which prevent a person  with a learning difficulty from working..

With support from Supported Internship job coaches and Living Ventures colleagues the interns learn new skills, gain confidence and prove their value in the work place.

That value has been fully endorsed when Living Ventures has, time and again, transformed those work placements into paid employment providing independence and increasing self-worth for the interns..

Previous successes have included interns being offered paid jobs at the bustling Grill On New York Street and the prestigious Australasia restaurant. Others have been offered and secured roles including restaurant set up, store room management, bussers, servers and bar backs.

The secret to these successes lies in the close working relationship between Pure Employment Officers and Living Ventures personnel. Together they identify suitable job roles and match them to the abilities and potential of specific interns. On occasion this may involve some role carving or reasonable adjustments if required. The results are the right role for the right person and a diverse workforce that better reflects society.

Internship job coaches support the interns as they learn their new responsibilities. We are always so impressed by how welcome Living Ventures staff make the interns feel and the invaluable natural in work support they offer. They have often commented on the positive impact Pure clients have on their own sense of fulfilment and team spirit.

Leah Coyle , Senior Transitions Officer at Pure Innovations has this to say: “It is so refreshing and hugely encouraging to work with an organisation that is so keen to implement such positive and inclusive employment initiatives.

Living Ventures has truly embraced our young people and impacted on their lives in so many positive ways.

Parents and carers are delighted that their sons and daughters have been offered and are sustaining paid employment within such prestigious venues. Many had been told their child would never work. Thank you for giving them the opportunities to defy those expectations.”
